One strong reason I supported Trump: He has promised to rebuild the Navy, which has shrunk to a woefully inadequate size to cover our global missions. Back in the 80's, we had a 600 ship navy. Now we are down to 272 or so deployable battle force ships, a large number of which are always undergoing repairs and maintenance in the shipyards or at the piers. Meanwhile, Russia, China and Iran, among others, are on crash courses to build up their navies.
