An American mother of three has left her life back in North Carolina to volunteer in the fight against ISIS militants in Iraq, it was reported on Friday.

25-year-old Samantha Johnston is one of the recent additions to a group of Western volunteers, who have joined the ranks of the Kurdish troops, including the Peshmerga and the YPG (People’s Protection Units).

Boko Haram said to swear allegiance to Islamic State | The Times of Israel

The leader of Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in an audio message disseminated on social media on Saturday.

What is the Islamic State?Where did it come from, and what are its intentions? The simplicity of these questions can be deceiving, and few Western leaders seem to know the answers. In December, The New York Times published confidential comments by Major General Michael K. Nagata, the Special Operations commander for the United States in the Middle East, admitting that he had hardly begun figuring out the Islamic State’s appeal. “We have not defeated the idea,” he said. “We do not even understand the idea.” In the past year, President Obama has referred to the Islamic State, variously, as “not Islamic” and as al-Qaeda’s “jayvee team,” statements that reflected confusion about the group, and may have contributed to significant strategic errors.

The group seized Mosul, Iraq, last June, and already rules an area larger than the United Kingdom. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been its leader since May 2010, but until last summer, his most recent known appearance on film was a grainy mug shot from a stay in U.S. captivity at Camp Bucca during the occupation of Iraq. Then, on July 5 of last year, he stepped into the pulpit of the Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul, to deliver a Ramadan sermon as the first caliph in generations—upgrading his resolution from grainy to high-definition, and his position from hunted guerrilla to commander of all Muslims. The inflow of jihadists that followed, from around the world, was unprecedented in its pace and volume, and is continuing. (CONTINUED)

SICK: ISIS Beheads American Peter Kassig, Recent Convert to Islam & Former Army Ranger

The Islamic State (IS/ISIS/ISIL) released a video on Sunday showing what the group claims is the severed head of American aid worker Peter Kassig.

Kassig, who previously served the United States military as an Army Ranger, was captured last year while delivering medical aid to a region in northern Syria.

In the video, the jihadi executioner says to the camera, while standing above what he claims is the severed head of Kassig:

This is Peter Edwards Kassig, a US citizen of your country. Peter, who fought against the Muslims in Iraq whilst serving as a soldier in the American army, doesn’t have much to say. His previous cellmates have already spoken on his behalf.


“But we say to you Obama. You claim to have withdrawn from Iraq four years ago. We said to you then that you were liars, that you had not withdrawn. And that if you had withdrawn you would return even after some time - you would return.” (CONTINUED)

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that 1,300 Free Syrian Army fighters would join Kurds in defending the key Syrian border town of Kobane from an assault by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria militants.

The Syrian Kurds have "accepted 1,300 people from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and they are holding talks to determine the transit route," Erdogan told reporters in Estonia's capital Tallinn.

Kurdish fighters have been battling ISIS with the help of air-strikes carried out by U.S.-led coalition warplanes. (CONTINUED)

Saudi Clerics warn millions of Muslims against 'evil' of ISIS

"These evil groups prey on our youth through mediums like the Internet and parents must start to know what their children are doing and who they talk to," Saudi cleric warns.

MINA, Saudi Arabia - Taking aim at Islamic State, Saudi Arabia has mounted a battle for hearts and minds at this year's haj, warning pilgrims that the hardline group is "evil" and seeking to recruit their children to fight in Iraq and Syria.

As millions of pilgrims visited the holiest sites in Islam on the second day of the annual pilgrimage on Saturday, global leaders condemned the fourth beheading of a Westerner by Islamic State insurgents.

Saudi Arabia declared Islamic State a terrorist organization in March and sharply stepped up denunciations of the group after its fighters made rapid territorial gains in Iraq in June.

US-led air strikes on the group has allowed some of the lost territory to be recaptured, but the well-armed militants continue to make gains in Iraq and Syria. Last week, Saudi air force planes pounded militant targets in Syria.  (CONTINUED)
