Thousands Attend 8-hour Wake for Slain NYC Officer
Thousands of uniformed police officers from New York City and around the country gathered Friday at the solemn, eight-hour wake of a city policeman who was killed along with his partner in a brazen daytime shooting a week ago.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, who had been criticized by the police union for his handling of protests critical of officers, briefly attended Officer Rafael Ramos' viewing at the Christ Tabernacle Church in Queens, where Ramos was brought in a flag-draped casket and viewed in full dress uniform.
"Dad, I'm forever grateful of the sacrifices you made to provide for me and Jaden," Ramos' son, Justin, said during the wake, referring to his younger brother, as officers gathered in the street watched on giant television screens. (CONTINUED)

France’s Anti-Semitic Nightmare | FrontPage Magazine
The Land of Enlightenment is fast becoming the land of darkness for France’s Jewish citizens.
And many in the French Jewish community have been aware of this sad situation for some time, a realization that was reinforced by the attack on two synagogues by Muslim rioters in Paris last summer during the Gaza conflict. But the latest shocking, anti-Semitic crime that occurred early in December in the same city has deepened the community’s feeling that the possibility of living peaceful lives with a Jewish identity in France is rapidly disappearing. The Monsters Who Screamed for Dead Cops
Evidence from photos, video, social-media posts and interviews suggests it was a single group, desperate to ‘turn up the anger’ at otherwise-peaceful protests. |
A little over a week ago, a group of people marched down the streets of Manhattan and called for police to be killed. But exactly who cried out for violence has been something of a mystery as New York goes through its most tense moment in more than a decade.
Evidence from photos, videos, social-media posts and interviews suggest that a group—the New York chapter of the Trayvon Martin Organizing Committee, or TMOC—might have been involved. There is no definitive proof that TMOC led the call for dead cops, but there is a web of circumstantial ties with the group at its center.
TMOC’s own social-media posts put them near the scene of the cry for police blood. Some of the slogans used that night—including “arms up, shoot back!”—are the same as the ones used by TMOC. And recently TMOC has been soliciting money for the legal defense of people it calls its “comrades” who were arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers on the Brooklyn Bridge, just hours after the “dead cops” chant was recorded. WOW! MUST READ LETTER FROM IMPASSIONED POLICE OFFICER: "Today I stopped caring about my fellow man"...
Dear Obama, Sharpton, Holder, Ferguson racists and media....YOU built this culture of hate and division. You encouraged a break down of trust and respect between the citizens and so many good police officers who risk their lives every day in small towns and big cities in America.
Today, I stopped caring about my fellow man. I stopped caring about my community, my neighbors, and those I serve. I stopped caring today because a once noble profession has become despised, hated, distrusted, and mostly unwanted.
I stopped caring today because parents refuse to teach their kids right from wrong and blame us when they are caught breaking the law. I stopped caring today because parents tell their little kids to be good or “the police will take you away” embedding a fear from year one. Moms hate us in their schools because we frighten them and remind them of the evil that lurks in the world.
They would rather we stay unseen, but close by if needed, but readily available to “fix their kid.” I stopped caring today because we work to keep our streets safe from mayhem in the form of reckless, drunk, high, or speeding drivers, only to be hated for it, yet hated even more because we didn’t catch the drunk before he killed someone they may know.
Nevertheless, we are just another tool used by government to generate “revenue.” I stopped caring today because Liberals hate the police as we carry guns, scare kids, and take away their drugs. We always kill innocent people with unjust violence. We are called bullies for using a Taser during a fight, but are condemned further for not first tasing the guy who pulls a gun on us.
And if we do have to shoot, we are asked “why didn’t you just shoot the gun out of their hand?” And when one of us is killed by the countless attacks that do happen (but are rarely reported in the mainstream media) the haters say, “Its just part of the job.”
Conservatives hate us as we are “the Government.” We try to take away their guns, freedoms, and liberty at every turn.
We represent a “Police State” where “jackbooted badge-wearing thugs” randomly attack innocent people without cause or concern for constitutional rights. We are Waco, Ruby Ridge, and Rodney King all rolled into one lone police officer stopping to help change an old lady’s tire. I stopped caring today as no one wants us around, but instantly demands answers, results, arrests, when a crime takes place. (CONTINUED)

A Football Hero Who Was an American Hero | CNS News
As a halfback at Michigan, he ran for 33 touchdowns, threw for 16 more, won the Heisman Trophy and was the first player picked in the NFL draft.
But the hardest hits Tom Harmon ever took were not on a football field. They were in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Harmon came out of a big Catholic family in a small Midwestern town — and was proud of both.
"Lou and Rose Harmon were good Catholics, and they were raising their family to have faith in the 'Big Boss' upstairs," he wrote about his parents in his 1944 memoir "Pilots Also Pray."
He had five siblings, who were close — and candid — with each other.
"The Harmon children felt it was their right to say anything they pleased about each other, but let an outsider make a smarty remark about one of them and the battle royal was on," he said. "They just stuck naturally together."
Having won fame as a college star, Harmon made some remarkable decisions about his early post-college career. (CONTINUED)
