Out of growing concern for the welfare of fishermen, wildlife and clean up crews in the Gulf coast comes a call to President Obama to end the use of the toxic chemical Corexit 9500.

Haitian Prayer Service for Earthquake Victims at Port-au-Prince Cathedral - May 12, 2010
In early May I accompanied another independent journalist to Haiti as a team to do some investigative reporting on facets of Haiti, post-earthquake, that were being largely ignored by the mainstream media. I focused mainly on photography, with a few videos too, such as this one. This was taken mid-morning on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 in the little square behind the remnants of the great Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Port-au-Prince. Apparently on Wednesday mornings, and perhaps on other days as well, the faithful gather to say prayers and sing sacred chants for the victims, in Creole, of the great earthquake of Tuesday, January 12, 2010, both the living and dead.
I had been touring downtown Port-au-Prince this morning getting some shots of both the earthquake damage and life on the streets. My "handler" (similar to a guide) had taken me to the cathedral grounds and I was wandering about the area when I happened across this large prayer group, largely dressed in white, just beginning their outdoor service below an elevated statue of Jesus hanging on the Cross. I found this quite poignant and moving, and felt I should post it for the public to view.
Some info, taken from Wikipedia, on The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption (in French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de L'Assomption), also called Port-au-Prince Cathedral (in French: Cathédrale de Port-au-Prince):
It was built between 1884 and 1914, dedicated on December 13, 1928, becoming the official cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince before the main roof and towers collapsed on January 12th. The nunciature and the archdiocesan offices were also demolished, killing Diocesan Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot instantly and Vicar General Charles Benoit later. It turns out that some geologists were screaming that BP's Deepwater Horizon exploratory rig was going to be constructed over a huge methane gas (actually methane hydrate) deposit well before the project was approved, based on available geological mapping in the Gulf of Mexico:

Associated Press Writers= NEW ORLEANS (AP) — It is an overlooked danger in oil spill crisis: The crude gushing from the well contains vast amounts of natural gas that could pose a serious threat to the Gulf of Mexico's fragile ecosystem.Meanwhile we are suddenly seeing, on the Web, where bloggers are running at a gallop with worries about methane deposits, a wave of exhortations to get the Hell out of the Gulf before 1) constantly escaping noxious fumes (benzene, methane, etc.) emanating from the leaking oil itself as well as the sea bottom drift onto populated coastal areas at increasingly toxic levels or 2) a huge, cavernous gas bubble explodes, erupting through the sea floor and creating a cataclysmic tsunami that could drown entire cities in the Gulf.
The oil emanating from the seafloor contains about 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits, said John Kessler, a Texas A&M University oceanographer who is studying the impact of methane from the spill. (source)

In their opinion, the explosive destruction of the Deepwater Horizon wellhead was an accident just waiting to happen.So is this a far-fetched concern, that suddenly, like a bolt from the blue, a huge methane hydrate bubble, perhaps millions of cubic feet in volume, could explode, producing a tsunami to rival the great Sumatra-epicentered tsunami of 2004? If not, and and it turns out this is as real a threat as someone leaving the gas in their stove on until the house fills up with it and explodes, then we are going to have to deal with this head-on and fast! There is no room for error here, which is why we need to open this up to public awareness and discussion now.

The Israeli Attack on the Mavi Marmara // Raw Footage Smuggled Out
Israel has tried to propagandize their bloody attack on the Mavi Marmara as self-defense against terrorists and provocateurs. Even before boarding, they began jamming all communications, and as soon as they came aboard, they systematically destroyed or confiscated (read stole) any and all media equipment, cameras, videos, cell-phones, lap-tops, Blackberries and on and on that they could find in a massive effort to engineer the storyline of the events unfolding. However, they failed to get all the documented evidence, including this hour plus raw footage shot by San Francisco-based Cultures of Resistance.

On the night of Sunday, May 30, showing a terrifying disregard for human life, Israeli naval forces surrounded and boarded ships sailing to bring humanitarian aid to the blockaded Gaza Strip. On the largest ship, the Mavi Marmara, Israeli commandos opened fire on civilian passengers, killing at least 9 passengers and wounding dozens more. Others are still missing. The final death toll is yet to be determined. Cultures of Resistance director Iara Lee was aboard the besieged ship and has since returned home safely.
Despite the Israeli government's thorough efforts to confiscate all footage taken during the attack, Iara Lee was able to retain some of her recordings. Above is raw footage from the moments leading up to and during the Israeli commandos' assault on the Mavi Marmara.
