Sigmund Freud
Somewhere along the line from the medical discipline of psychiatry that Sigmund Freud and his peers launched at the dawn of the 20th Century, a discipline based on the discovery and study of the subconscious and how repressions and conflicts within the subconscious lead to neuroses and psychoses, somewhere along the line, this discipline became prostituted. Instead of attempting to create a positive transference with the patient and then work backwards into the past to uncover and resolve conflicts, many "Shrinks" began to take the easy way out: pull a sterotypical "mental" disease classification out of the air and treat the now officially "classified" patient with expensive, "approved" drugs. No need to deal with the subconscious at all while your patient either becomes a zombie needing a pill fix for the rest of his or her life, dies from the side effects or flips out and then ends up in a mental institution or, worst still, commits suicide.
Eventually the Greed is Good paradigm fully grabbed mainstream psychiatrists by the collar and hurled them into a degenerate, permanent relationship with the vastly profitable, corrupt and endlessly manipulative pharmaceutical industry, so that now the average psychiatrist's office has become a psychotropic drug dispensary, not totally unlike a heroin or cocaine dealer's mobile drugstore on a street-corner. Click here for an expose excerpt by a former biochemist in the psychotropic drug industry, Shane Ellison.
Wilhelm Reich, the great Austrian student of Freud who developed his own refinements of Freud's core teachings, went to great lengths to point out that the very term "mental illness" is a misnomer that posits an artificial separation of psyche and soma in the human being. The healthy human being's psyche is in reality an integrated unity of mind and body, so that what effects the one effects the other. To state that you have a mental illness surely ignores the fact that you axiomatically have some kind of somatic illness or tension as well.
What patients really suffer from is emotional illness, the failure to fully feel, express and resolve emotions and the energy of emotions. Emotions move through the body and don't simply reside in a few cells in the brain, so the whole idea of trying to chemically nip "mental illness" in the bud with a few brain-altering chemicals is laughable in the extreme, not unlike ancient King Xerxes of Persia once ordering his servants to scourge the waves with ships and chains to punish a stormy sea for destroying the bridge he had ordered built across the Hellespont.
At best the emotions are suppressed, at worst they are exacerbated, often resulting in a true psychotic experience ending in injury or death to oneself or others. Emotional illness means trapped, if not frozen emotions that are festering in the mind AND body, so Wilhelm Reich actually evolved a psychosomatic therapy now called Orgonomy or Bioenergetics that works to free up and get the emotions moving toward expression and release again. The energy MUST be released or it becomes a fetid swamp. If you would like to read on about Orgonomy, click here. This is the link to the Institute for Orgonomic Science.
There are real treatments for emotional illness that work without this nauseating and fraudulent drug paradigm that is devastating and impoverishing millions of men, women and children in America. Orgone Therapy is one of them. Take the time to study it.
Meanwhile, please check out this truly shocking full-length expose on the current debauched and degraded psychiatric/pharmaceutic industry and its fraudulent use of toxic, dangerous drugs, one of the great scandals of our time. This gross travesty of the original psychiatric discipline that Freud, Reich, Jung, Adler and many other great minds worked to build is literally killing patients by the score through toxicity over time. From the Author of the Book, On the Border - Obama vs the Hard NeoCons
Michel Warschawski is a journalist and writer and a founder of the Alternative Information Center (AIC) in Israel. His books include On the Border and Towards an Open Tomb - the Crisis of Israeli Society.
The psychotic Right-wing Israeli movement with its powerful lobbyists like AIPAC and soul mates like Cheney is trying to maintain a strangle-hold on the American Congress and undermine the Obama Administration. I actually had one arrogant woman tell me that Obama is our "Boy" (as in the Deep South) and "we" will keep him obedient through Rahm Emanuel. However, Obama has been slipping his leash lately. Will his administration be able to reassert independence? Surprisingly, the last president who was confrontational with Israel behind the scenes was Bush Senior, just the opposite of Bush Jr.

Out of Work in the US - Special on the Millions of Unemployed in America
Why does it take a Middle Eastern News Organization to tell us what's really happening to the millions of down and out Americans in our own country? Because our mainstream media is largely composed of apologists for the warfare state.
AlJazeera With tens of millions of Americans unemployed, and millions more struggling to survive on a minimum wage, the rapid spread of poverty and insufficient access to welfare have combined to form what some analysts are calling a 'social state of emergency' in the United States. Are there solutions? Fault Lines travels to some of the regions hardest hit by the recession, tracking some creative measures taken by local communities to combat the jobs crisis from the bottom up.
